Bed Bugs Treatment
Bed bug infestations are extremely difficult to manage, especially when an infestation has begun. Over the counter products are not always the most reliable in completely removing the infestation. They can go undetected for quite a long time, meaning that when you first notice them, a serious infestation may already be present.
They are invisible to the naked eye, and can settle in your home pretty much anywhere, making it vital for you to trust only a licensed pest management professional with a lot of bed bug control experience.
Characteristics
Adult bed bugs are brown, flat and about a ¼” long, with a soft, rounded look. After feeding they are dark red, rounded and about 3/8″ long. They are typically active at night or in darkened places. Bed bugs can live for months to over a year without feeding, and their population can triple every year. They’re usually found hiding in mattresses, bed springs, cracks of floorboards, in furniture, window treatments, and clothes. Some people can have an allergic reaction to bed bugs, because they inject a fluid into the skin when feeding, which causes irritation, itching and inflammation.
Prevention
Always check your hotel room for bed bugs when traveling. Bed bugs can get in your clothes and come back home with you if you’re not careful. Also avoid buying used furniture and bedding, as it may be possible that bed bugs are living inside. If you need us to inspect used furniture before buying it, give us a call and we’ll perform a thorough bed bug inspection on the items.
Management
Always vacuum and remove clutter from your home, to make less areas that the bed bugs will be attracted to, making sure you use a vacuum with a bag (so you can dispose of them). Purchase mattress and box spring bug-proof encasement to seal in the bed bugs and keep additional ones out. If you have infested clothing, wash it on the hot cycle than put it in the dryer for half an hour. Bed Bugs cannot stand hot temperatures (120°F and up).
